Hi all,
The weeks are starting to zip by! Today is Isaac's 5th week birthday and he is 28 weeks by gestational age. Today was the day that we were hoping we could hold out till when I was at Aiku Hospital. I guess in some sense we made it as Isaac is still with us and doing okay. I think it still would have been tough for Rachel even if we held out to 28 weeks. I can't believe she has been in heaven for 5 weeks already. I still miss her so much.
I didn't really get to see Isaac today. I had my one-month post C-section check up at Toho U. hospital today and we were going to see Isaac after my appointment and then rush back so Jong can get his stuff and go to the airport. I forgot that at real Japanese hospitals (as opposed to the very westernized clinic I go to where Dr. Sakamoto is based out of), although you make an "appointment", its really the time they give you to start waiting. I ended waiting for more than 1 hour 15 minutes before my appointment. Jong went ahead to see Isaac after we waited for almost an hour. By the time we were done, I only had about 10 minutes with Isaac.
The good news is they weighed him today and he weighed 726 grams!! Praise the Lord!! Because of his weight gain, they are going to up his feedings to 12 ml per feeding tomorrow. We are really hoping that he will get to 1 kg by Jong's birthday on May 23 (when he is 30 weeks by G/A). Apart from CLD, he also has anemia and the doctor told us they will be giving Isaac another blood transfusion today (I think this will be his 5th or 6th one since birth). I forgot to to mention his anemia yesterday but please pray for healing for his anemia as well as his CLD.
It looks like I caught a cold. I hope I didn't give it to Isaac yesterday. I wasn't coughing or sneezing yet yesterday and I wore a mask and never touched him. But Jong did open the porthole when I was sitting in front of it. Jong said that he saw Isaac sneezed a few times today. Jong said he looked really cute sneezing but I really hope its not because he caught something from me!!
I will start taking the train out to Toho starting tomorrow. As long as I have this cold (I don't feel very sick but I definitely have a cold), I will continue to wear masks, not touch Isaac and not open the portholes. I hope that is okay. He really responds to my voice so I want to make sure he knows I am there every day. Any advice from premie moms would be greatly appreciated. Jong said Isaac kept his eyes closed the entire time he was there today, but when I got there and started talking to him, he peeped open his eyes for a sec, looked at me, then closed his eyes and it looked like he smiled a little bit before going back to sleep. Jong was a bit jealous! : ) Just kidding. I think Isaac remembers my voice from when he was inside me.
We didn't take that many pictures today as he was back to sleeping on his tummy and there were too many things around him to get good shots.
Take care and God bless,
Sonia

ACKKKKKKKKK... Isaac is so beautiful! These photos rock! You can really see his facial features and I'm loving the poses. It's a good thing I'm not standing in front of his incubator crib, cuz I'd be squealing the whole time. I'm sure he wouldn't appreciate that. :)
I'm trying to understand and pray along with you guys, JOng and Sonia! It's sad that we are so far from each other right now, but this whole blog is teaching me tremendously about your faith, and your lives. I'm really thankful and I'm so glad to be updated. I love you both, very much. But you'll be competing with Isaac in my heart. GAH I miss you guys!
I'm in the computer lab, typing up my last paper. Ppl are gonna think that Finals are making me cry =P But these tears are for you guys and praying for God's glory in you. I love you!
hello Jong and Sonia. I am glad to hear things are going well. I believe I have not seen or talked to either of you since Tina's wedding. Wow!! I am glad to hear that all of the prayers blessing you two and your new family have really paid off. I am glad to hear that Isaac is developing well. He looks quite adorable. I mean Jong + Sonia = oh snap!! I am sad to hear the news about Rachel but dont let her going to Heaven put you down but use it as an event in your life to build your faith on. From experience with the death of my father I used it as an experience to develop my faith and it really helped alot. I hope everything continues to go well with you guys and your new family. I know you guys will make great parents. Stay in touch my email is tommechung123@hotmail.com I hope to hear from you guys soon!
Hi Sonia,
I was thinking that perhaps you could make a tape recording of singing songs, talking to Isaac, etc. that the nurses could play for Isaac when you are not there so he could hear your voices throughout the day.
Just a thought!
Marlene
I didn't have my computer for a few days so when I came to check up on you all I was pleasantly surprised at the new cheeks that Isaac has acquired!
He is adorable and I can so easily remember the expressions and poses from Nathan's itty bitty days. They are the highlight of any parent's day.
I'll pray that you recover from whatever it is you're fighting very quickly, Sonia. I know it's so hard to think that you could make your little guy sick. But I also must say that it is VERY encouraging that he hasn't gotten any infections yet! Wow! The miniscule visiting hours are probably a huge help with that. Nathan cruised along for 17 days and then...infection hit. It's bound to happen but the fact that Isaac has been "healthy" for a whole month is wonderful! And no, you can't be expected to stay away from him just because you have a cold. I would just wear a mask and wash your hands twice as much as you even feel you should. He obviously loves your time together. That is the most important thing.
Love to your sweet boy,
Elise VanDyken
