Isaac's Sweet Little Voice

Dear all,

I heard our little Isaac's sweet little voice for the first time tonight! We have only had squeaks from him so far and not a real voice. When I got into NICU, Isaac was sleeping so I decided to read this little diary book we keep to see if his primary nurse wrote anything interesting. Well, she wrote that she heard Isaac's voice for the first time yesterday! I was pretty excited already and then his attending nurse (not his primary nurse) came over and asked me if I wanted to change his diapers. Of course I did. So we did and we ended up waking my little boy up with the diaper change which made him unhappy and he cried. And I heard his voice!!! Its not very loud but its his voice! ^_^ Here is a very short video clip:

Also, I had to go to a separate room to pump tonight. Before I went, Isaac was sleeping like an angel right in the middle of his incubator. Well, when I came back out about 20 minutes later, he had somehow moved from his vertical position and was sleeping horizontally right across the incubator box! Wanpaku (for those of you who missed our earlier Japanese lesson, this is Isaac's nickname in NICU and it means naughty boy)!!!!

They also lowered the oxygen in the incubator to 25% from 30% but the oxygen coming out of his nasal cannular is still 30%.

I am also going to post an older video from Sunday. It is really cute but I had too much video from Sunday so I didn't post this one then. Isaac started out looking at and then touching this little fishie stuffed animal and then it seemed like he was trying to eat/lick it! ^_^

Sonia,
Thanks for sharing all these great videos of Isaac over these last few days. It is truly amazing how big and strong he has become. I actually scrolled back into your history, because I wanted to see how small he initially was, and it's dramatic!Anyways, the real reason I wanted to write is cause you were asking the other day how to increase your breastmilk? Well, I am an endocrinologist, so from a medical perspective, based on how breastmilk is created, there are some things you can do to increase your supply. The most important is frequent pumping (until you're allowed to put Isaac to breast), because it's a positive feedback loop in the body that the more you pump, the more prolactin is secreted to make more milk. Secondly, taking an H2-blocker will help. You can buy this over the counter, and the generic names available are Zantac, Tagamet, or Pepcid. This is because histamine blocks prolactin release, so if you take a blocker, you remove the inhibitory effect. Lastly, an herbal remedy is Fenugreek. This comes as a pill, and it's known to help increase milk supply. And it is important to sleep because that's when prolactin increases! And don't forget STRESS inhibits prolactin. Just pray, don't stress :)
I hope that helps! If you want to ask me other things you can reach me at: drjean2002@aol.com
Have a good weekend!

I will second Amy about the Fenugreek, it really helped increase my milk supply (I also took Reglan).

It is such a joy to hear Isaac's voice and to see him all "fired-up"! He is an incredible little mighty boy fighter!!!! Your video brought tears to my eyes! I am praying that you will be able to hold him very soon!

Hugs,
Susan

Hooray Isaac! The Wisniewski boys were thrilled to be able to hear Isaac today (although they did wonder what the big deal was - - since he "is a baby and everything").
Congratulations on yet another miraculous milestone...keep em coming!

Those cheeks! And cute little voice! I don't know how you contain yourself and not just grab him and hold him close to you.
