So I am thinking more that Isaac might have Silent Reflux now? Someone send me this link - http://www.infantrefluxdisease.com/silent_reflux.php. It says that some symptoms that can indicate silent reflux are:
-irritability and pain
-poor sleep habits typically with frequent waking* -> Isaac has this
-arching their necks and back during or after eating* -> Isaac has this
-frequent hiccups* -> Isaac has this
-frequent ear infections
refusing food or accepting only a few bites despite being hungry* or the exact opposite -> Isaac has this sometimes
-requiring constant small meals or liquid
-food/oral aversions
-anemia
excessive drooling -> Isaac seems to have this, although I am not sure what excessive is
-running nose, sinus infections
-sinus congestion
-swallowing problems, gagging, choking
-chronic hoarse voice
-frequent red, sore throat without infection present
-apnea
-respiratory problems—pneumonia, bronchitis, wheezing, asthma, night-time cough, aspiration
-gagging themselves with their fingers or fist (sign of esophagitis)
-poor weight gain, weight loss, failure to thrive* -> I guess Isaac has this but then I think all micro-preemies would have this symptom
-erosion of dental enamel
-neck arching (Sandifer's Syndrome)
-bad breath
* denotes most common symptoms of silent reflux
So I will be talking about silent reflux with Isaac's home nurse when she visits next Tuesday or Wednesday. In the meantime, I am going to try a few things out suggested by the website. I will report back later.
By the way, I forgot to ask, how do you all like the new look?

I like the new look.
Sonia,
My son Aidan had acid reflux and I did not sleep for months, finally the doctor realized what was happening and he was given Zantac twice a day and bam a different child all together, he sleeps at least 8-11 hours a night. He has not had to have the medicine for a month or so now, he will be 8 months in a few days. Definately look into it. Good luck.
Hugs from Allison (IVF Connections)
Sonia,
The new look is great!! Sagan had reflux and was on Zantac for a year. Then he seem to outgrow it, but it reared its ugly head again last year and he has since been taking Pepcid.
The Zantac, of which he may only need a small amount, can make the difference between a happy growing baby and a miserable, cranky, failure to thrive-like baby. I am hoping this is what is going on, since it is easy to fix and not a permanent condition. I am actually surprised that he didn't leave the NICU on Zantac, I have met very few micro-preemies that have dodged the reflux bullet. Also, there isn't any real need for invasive or extensive testing for this. If you try the meds and it makes a difference, then you will have your answer. Of course, I am not a doctor, so it's just my personal opinion. My daughter Gabi was a 36 weeker and had many of the symptoms Isaac has. She could never, never eat without throwing up. She got so the she could make herself throw up when she was angry when she got older. However, she suffered for a long time before any bothered to diagnos her. It wasn't until after Sagan was born that I knew what was going on and insisted we try some meds. Wow, what a difference!!
Keep your chin up, Sonia. I have had the flu for the last couple of days, but am going to send you an note. Everything that you are feeling right now is very normal and I just wanted to talk to you about that. I will do that over the weekend! I think of you guys every day!!
Love,
Susan
You are probably going to get advice from everyone and their brother on this one, so here goes my two cents. Is it possible that Isaac is overtired when he is put to sleep? Babies actually have a harder time falling asleep when they are very very tired. It’s easier for them to drift into sleep BEFORE they start to feel sleepy. 9-10pm seems awefully late for a baby’s bed time. I think babies tend to fall asleep with sunset and rise at sunrise (which was about 7 pm bedtime and 6 am wake up time for our kids at Isaac’s age). Also, despite your worries that Isaac isn’t bonding with you, maybe he is actually so excited (too excited) to be playing with mommy that he can’t settle down to fall asleep. Maybe shifting your bonding time to morning instead of evening would help him fall asleep better at night.
Hi there --
You don't know me, but I have followed your story and have been praying for you in your journey!!
I'm sure you get a ton of advice but I just can't help but suggest one thing -- I'm sorry!!! (I have 2 little boys -- the youngest is almost 6 months old, so about what Isaac's adjusted age is!) Anyways, re: him turning into a monster at night.... we had this with my son too. We took the advice to start putting him to bed much earlier and boy did that ever help us. I think he was getting way overtired at night. It was hard for us because then we hardly got to spend any time with him at night after work, but he did SO MUCH better. Maybe try getting him to bed around 8 or so, so you have some time with him but get him to bed before he turns bad. I have had many friends go through similar things and everyone swears by getting kids to bed earlier. Maybe try it... who knows. Good luck!! :)
Sonia!!! It's funny - I was just checking out your blog today, loving the pictures of Isaac, but sad to hear about the reflux and tantrums. My SIL's son also has had really bad reflux (he was 5 weeks premmie + has a Korean Dad/American Mum - apparently Eurasian kids have alot of digestion issues...), so I know from her that it's a real challenge to find a solution.
I don't get to HP much these days. But I miss you all so much. I do stalk every now and then, so I know how everyone is getting on.
Praying that Isaac continues to grow strong & happy, and that the doctors can help you find a solution to the reflux.
Love,Anne
