We did it!

Isaac was such a good little boy today. He didn't throw too many tantrums and was just the sweetest most curious little boy looking at daddy, mommy and everything around him. It was almost like he was so happy to get out of the incubator and to be held by us again that he decided to behave really well. ^_^

We got to see Isaac get bathed for the first time ever. Today was for us to observe first. We should get our first try tomorrow. He was just soooooo incredibly cute. You can judge for yourself:

After Isaac was all cleaned up, I got to try breastfeeding Isaac directly for the first time ever!!!!!! I was warned by many friends that the first time will probably be really hard and that Isaac might not latch on. But our little Isaac was such a good little boy! He latched on immediately and was really good at it! We only got to do it for 3 minutes on each breast since today was just and "try and see" attempt. We also didn't weigh him before and after the attempt so we don't know how much he got. But based on how much I was able to pump afterwards, I suspect he was able to get about 20-30 ml from me directly. I am sooooo thankful to God that Isaac was able to breastfeed well. He breathed really well during the breastfeeding as well. It will make life soooo much easier if I can breast feed him directly when he gets home, especially during night feedings! Being able to breast feed him directly today just made all the pumping the last 5 months totally worth it!!!!

I also tried to cut his finger nails today. That was really, really stressful for me! Phew!! I hope it gets easier!

Jong and I are really thankful to our Lord for a great day we got to spend with our little boy today.

Thank you for all of your prayers which made all this possible for us (um, I think I sound like a commercial break. Hehe.)!!!!

Blessings,

Sonia

He's adorable! Such beautiful eyes! And he was real good during the bath!

Jong, Sonia, Have you been to Akachan Honpo in Gotanda? You guys should visit the place, because they have most everything that a baby needs (and the things you probably see in the hospital as well)

I think the nurse was also saying that babies get scared and nervous when the blankets are taken off during the wash, so you have to put it back on after the wash. Our Korean nannies for both my kids had similar philosophy where they put the babies in the warm water while fully dressed. She only took the clothes off slowly and gently as she was progressing with her wash, but the total time the baby was completely naked was very very brief. Also, the water was quite warm....

Good luck with your trial tomorrow! And Sonia, congrats on successful latching! Go Issac!

Congratulations on Isaac being able to get his milk straight from the "source" for the very first time! How thrilled you must have felt at that. As a mom who breastfed a preemie for 24 months, I am just grinning ear to ear for you!!

Praise the Lord! He looks so cute taking a bath. Those skinny legs! I can't wait until you bring him home so you can fatten him up. I want him to have those cute, chubby, wrinkly baby thighs.

I'm so excited that you were able to successfully breast feed him. What a good boy latching on so well. It'll be nice to have a "real" run of things tomorrow.

Much love,
Mary
