Isaac update

I know I have been promising this for a while. I really can't procrastinate anymore can I since I am checking into the hospital tomorrow morning!

Isaac has been doing great at preschool. He cried may be 2-3 times and that was it. After that, when we drop him off, he would be like "see ya". He gets so excited the mornings he is going to school. He runs around in the house and last week when he was all ready to go and daddy was still standing there, he started pushing daddy to the door! :) I almost regret signing up for the 2-days a week class. I am hoping there will somehow be an opening for the 3-days a week class next fall for him (its currently full)! I am still thinking its probably better for him not to go 5-days a week so he does get some break from the germs. He actually didn't get sick since starting preschool until he caught a cold very recently. He seems to be on the mend now.

Isaac is still quite speech delayed although he seems to understand us quite a bit when he wants to pay attention. He used to say more words but these days, he will only say "car" and "go". His two favorite things I guess. "Go" to him means going out and going to do something. He is an action packed boy and does not like to sit still!

We have also been struggling with eating issues. He started regressing a bit with his eating probably due to oral aversion/sensitivity and we started mouth-desensitizing therapy with him. It has helped a bit but its still a struggle. Its very strange though as he just LOVES white rice. He will eat all the white rice we give him but unfortunately, that is just not enough calories to fatten up our boy and definitely not enough nutrients. So we keep trying.

Isaac in general is so good natured. His high pain tolerance is a bit scary though as he will run and not pay attention to where he is going and fall or bang into things all the time. He will cry for a little and stop very quickly once we pick him up and comfort him. The only time he cries a lot is when we go to the doctor. He is just terrified of doctors and nurses now and will cry his heart out from the beginning to the end when we are at the doctor's office despite the fact that he didn't get any shots. We are wondering how we are going to deal with a full term baby with a full set of lungs because we have been so spoiled by Isaac who really doesn't cry and when he does, he is still pretty soft. And he cannot scream!

Isaac is also very determined, perhaps to the point of being stubborn. But we figured that's how he survived being born at 23 weeks and 6 months in NICU so its hard to fault him in a way. :)

One interesting thing is Isaac is very easily moved by music. He LOVES happy music (like VeggieTale Songs). But sometimes we play Praise Baby DVDs and if the tune is a bit sad or melancholy, he will start crying. Real crying with real tears. I wonder if any of you out there have toddlers who react the same way to music?

Anyway, I am going to post a few pictures and try to get some sleep. We are checking into the hospital in the morning (for some reason, they want me to spend all day there) and then the C-section is scheduled on Thursday morning. Hopefully, Jong will be the one updating everyone on Thursday!

We dressed Isaac up in his Korean outfit for international day at his preschool in mid March.

At home before going to school:
At school:
Isaac went to the Ueno Zoo this morning (with his daddy and grandparents (my parents are here visiting)). This was his first ever visit to the zoo.
He apparently LOVED feeding the goats at the petting zoo!
Take care and God bless,

Sonia

Great pictures Sonia! I can't believe how big he is getting! He looks like a big boy now instead of a baby... I love his Korean costume too, it's beautiful. Praying for you as you go to the hospital tomorrow.

What gorgeous pictures of Isaac, and how weird that our kids all end up with a fairly similar set of issues.

Anyway, I wanted to congratulate you on going to term and I look forward to seeing pictures of little Abigail. I wish you the best of luck tomorrow and a very speedy recovery from the C-Section!

He is just too cute!

We're all praying for you, a safe delivery and a healthy Abigail. I'm so excites, I've been counting the days. Can't wait for the update.

Love, Mary

I loved the pics! Esp the last one with Isaac's funny and mischievous smile. :) I think young toddlers probably prefer bland stuff. My friends boys all liked rice a lot when the were toddlers. They liked plain pasta too I think. :) Anyway, can't wait to see Abigail's pictures when she arrives.

Hi Sonia, Jong and Isaac,

It's hard to believe that it is time for you to have Abigail already. Of course, I'm not the one that's pregnant. I'm so happy and excited for you all and can hardly wait to see those first pictures of Abigail. Along with so many others, I will be praying for an uneventful delivery and a very healthy baby. We already know that she is precious.

Take care and blessings to you, Rowena

Hello Sonia,

I still visit your blog on a regular basis to check in on Isaac and your pregnancy. My girls Addison & Lily are just over 21 months now. Lily who was born with a cleft palate and has much more trouble with pronunciation than Addison (but lots of words) also loves music. She loves to dance and sing. But I guess we don't have any sad music so I don't know if she'd really react emotionally to sad songs. As far as eating goes, a friend of mine said her daughter's appetite went down significantly around 2 years of age. A & L still seem to eat pretty well, but they have more meals where they leave stuff on their plates than they used to. We give them whole wheat pasta every night. They also like turkey, turkey meatballs, zucchini, carrots, corn. Oh and Addison loves Mommy's PopTarts (only given in small doses).

I'm so excited for your new family addition. Hope all goes smoothly over the next few days. I'm 12 days away from my own scheduled c-section also from a "how the heck" pregnancy.

All the best! Teresa (IVF Connections)

I gotta tell you - that last zoo picture, with Isaac's huge grin, just brings tears to my eyes. I love seeing him so happy and full of life.

Hooray for Isaac and Congratulations on little Abi! Thanks to Jong for posting so we could all see the new arrival!!! Just one comment re Isaac's loving of rice. As you might remember we had big problems feeding Henry due to his wide ranging allergies. One of the things we did to add calories to his limited diet was to add Flax seed oil to his rice. It didn't have a taste (as far as he could tell) and it really ups both the caloric intake and the nutrients! Just a thought.

Looking forward to more pictures of both - - we are so happy for the whole family. Oh, and perhaps when Isaac has to compete with a full set of developed lungs to be heard he will step it up and then you will miss the quiet!

Love to all, w
