First Day of School

So we survived today!

I was so nervous last night it was definitely worse than if it was my first day of school!

Jong and I both think Isaac did relatively well this morning. He cried a few times, sometimes when he felt overwhelmed but mostly when he was supposed to sit and not run around and he didn't want to sit still. God blessed us with a really great lead teacher. She is very engaging with the children and has a beautiful singing voice. Isaac looked a bit stunned the entire time and didn't really know how to stay with the group of kids.

Isaac is clearly developmentally behind all the other kids. His class is supposed to be for 15-24 mos old toddlers. I was amazed at all these other kids. They are so well behaved and almost all of them can talk really well. They can all sit at the table and eat all their snacks quietly. Isaac dumped all his cheerios out from the cup and tried to run away. LOL. We knew Isaac was quite behind verbally and in his fine motor skills but today made me realize that he is behind in gross motor skills as well. He cannot jump or go up and down stairs holding onto the railing by himself (he may be can go up the stairs holding onto railing by himself but he tends to crawl up but he can't go down stairs).

BUT all in all, we think he did pretty well since he entered mid-stream, especially considering where he came from. I almost cried thinking about this while I was there. Its so amazing that we are actually at pre-school! It just seems so unbelievable even before December before he started OT sessions!

I think we are going to try to wean off starting on Thursday - leave for one hour and see how Isaac does. Please continue to pray for Isaac and also that he can stay healthy. There were a few kids coughing with green guck coming out of their nose today. We are only doing 2 days a week so I don't want him to start missing classes already before he gets used to the routine.

Oh and to answer Abby's questions to my previous post. Isaac is a TERRIBLE eater. We can hardly get him to eat at home. Fortunately, the pre-school is only from 8:30 am to 11:30 am so he just needs to snack once and he will pick at cheerios or corn pops. But as you see he dumped them all out first. He is also very tough to put to sleep. We spend a lot of time wrestling him to sleep (literally) as he tries to get up and run away. Fortunately, he naps in the afternoon and not the morning so this pre-school program works for us.

Without further adieu, here are the pictures from today.

Plus a couple of bonus pictures I missed before he got his haircut with Isaac as samurai:
Thanks for all your prayers.

He's soo cute! And getting so big!
He will catch up eventually, lol. Nathan will 4 in June and he STILL can't jump over things or in place at all!

He is just too adorable! I love the backpack. I can't believe what a big boy he is. What a miracle to be able to see him go to pre-school. Love you lots. You're always in my prayers and thoughts.

Happy first day of school for Isaac! In just a short time he's going to have the whole routine down and will make leaps and bounds as far as both social and physical skills. Nothing can compare with the ability of kids to start to mimic each other... Can't believe he has come this far already - - was showing the boys the first pictures of Isaac compared to his first day of school pics. Henry is convinced is cannot be the same baby!! Love to all, w

I wouldn't worry so much that Isaac may seem like he's so behind the other kids.

When our kids started their mommy and me class, we thought they were far behind the other kids of same age who started school several months ahead of ours. But our kids caught up pretty quickly once they were in the environment.

Wow...what great pictures and boy oh boy does Isaac look grown up in them. I like the idea of a several hour a day preschool or daycare experience at first, and maybe when I am off next spring we'll try that with Hallie and see how it goes. There are such long wait lists here, too, but I'm afraid to put her on one right now because if she gets in, we'll be forced to send her!

Isaac's napping routine (sleeping routine) is a lot like ours. It took forever to wrestle Hallie down tonight. Sharon can do it really easily, but not me!

And thanks so much for the feedback on my questions. I am looking forward to reading how his progress at school goes. And in terms of the being behind peers, I suspect a lot of that has to do with our kids not hanging out with other kids from the start. That must make it harder for them socially.
