Sorry I haven't had time to post pictures lately. Its just been really crazy workwise. I promise I will try to post some pictures soon as Isaac is just so cute these days. :-)
Anyway, I am posting this to solicit advice and tips from everyone for:
1. Traveling more than 10 hours with a not yet walking but crawling non stop moving monkey, um, I mean little boy (who has chronic lung disease so Benadryl may not be an option); and
2. How to help him adjust for the following time changes:
-14 hours backwards from Tokyo to CA;
-3 hours forward from CA to DC/PA;
-3 hours backwards from PA to CA; and
-14 hours forward from CA to Tokyo.
I am not so concerned about the last leg as he can take more time in recovering once we are back in Tokyo but we have a packed schedule in the US so any tips to make the time change more manageable would be really appreciated!
Thanks!
Sonia

Hey Sonia --
Looks like Isaac will make his first BIG flight! I wish I could say I had some magic advice, but the first thing I did was kind of chuckle!
For the flight - - I would suggest lots of little toys AND food. I think we kept the boys busy on almost all flights with things they liked to eat. Do not plan on getting any rest yourself. If you are flying with Jong, he may sleep. This will make you angry. You can call George!
For the time change, we just try to immediately put them on the eating schedule of the new place. Also, try for a hotel room (or other visiting place) that has real black out curtains. So, when he gets up at 3:00 in the morning, you can keep it very dark, very low key. Give him something to eat (we LOVE instant oatmeal. quick, hot and fills the tummy). Watch a quiet video and then see if you can get him back down. If not, the next day will be tough, but keep pushing him through to the evening as late as you can. Wake him if you have too (you will be MEAN!).
Frankly, the kids seems to adjust so much better than we ever did.
Have a great trip.

1. Bring LOTS of toys and snacks to keep him occupied. In fact, your carry-on items should only consist of toys, snacks, diapers, passports, and tickets. Forget about brining your own reading material or laptop. Every minute of your flight should be spent playing with him, feeding him, carrying him around, and putting him to sleep. (The only exception is if you are brining a laptop to use as a portable DVD player to play Isaac’s Baby Einstein)
2. Unschedule as many events during your trip as possible. You should take it easy and not overburden Isaac’s health. I don’t know if it’s the change in climate or if it’s exposure to new germs, but I’ve found that kids tend to get sick during trips.
3. Whoever you are going to see in DC/PA, ask them to come visit you in CA. 3 hours may seem like a short trip to adults but for little babies, they might as well be 14 hours.
4. Grow a thick skin! You can’t completely prevent babies from crying on planes and other people are going to be giving you dirty looks. Just hope that you’ll be seated near other people with babies and toddlers. They are your best ally on the plane!
Have a great trip!
Gold fish crackers and more gold fish crackers. They are yummy esy to carry and when he is not hungry he might play with them. I recomend bringing a dvd player if at all possiable it will be a life saver on the plane and in the middle of the night when he is awake because of the time change.
