This is my story, This is my song.

This really will be my last blog entry tonight. I was having trouble falling asleep and read my friend's blog. In her blog entry, she mentioned the chorus of a hymn I haven't sang for a long time. I remembered how I used to like this hymn so I went to look for the lyrics:

Blessed Assurance

Blessed assurance, Jesus is mine!
O what a foretaste of glory divine!
Heir of salvation, purchase of God,
Born of His Spirit, washed in His blood.

Refrain:
This is my story, this is my song,
praising my Savior all the day long;
this is my story, this is my song,
praising my Savior all the day long.

Perfect submission, perfect delight!
Visions of rapture now burst on my sight;
Angels descending bring from above
Echoes of mercy, whispers of love.

(Refrain)

Perfect submission, all is at rest!
I in my Savior am happy and blest,
Watching and waiting, looking above,
Filled with his goodness, lost in His love.

(Refrain)

I don't think I ever really understood the lyrics before when I used to sing this hymn. As I am approaching Isaac's and Rachel's birthday, a bittersweet day for me, my mind started playing the "what-if" games again.

Singing this hymn again made me think that the writer of the hymn probably went through some pretty difficult times. This hymn is so much more meaningful after having gone through last year. I am reminded that:

This is MY story, This is MY song.

Jesus wrote MY story and MY song the way it is.

Oh, how I want to be praising my Savior all the day long for my story and my song. How I want to be perfectly submitted to Christ. To be lost in His Love. To be able to do this all the time and not just once in a while.

My prayer this week and next is that I can sing this and mean it every day of my life:

This is my story, this is my song,
praising my Savior all the day long;
this is my story, this is my song,
praising my Savior all the day long.

I really love that hymn.

I still do the what-if game too. Thanks for your posts, it reminds me of how I should be thinking everyday.

I know it is hard to understand and live each day. But this song reminds me of God's love and our path.
God bless us and give us strenght to live each day.
